How does CARECO work? CARECO is an organization founded to reduce our members' energy expenditures. We primarily accomplish this by pooling buying power for home heating oil. When you join CARECO, we will place you with an oil dealer that services your area. CARECO makes arrangements with the oil company to provide heating oil and service at the agreed upon price. CARECO is able to get substantial discounts on home heating oil because of our group buying power. These agreements, usually based on a fixed price for heating oil, ensure that our members will not being overcharged by the oil companies. CARECO does not deliver your oil, or fix your heating equipment. The oil company will provide those services. CARECO's function is to aggregate energy aware consumers and pool their buying power. The CARECO membership fee helps to cover our costs to administer the program, and provide member services. The residential membership fee is 25.00 for residential homeowners. To that end, we work with our oil companies and heating equipment manufacturers to arrange free equipment, rebates, and incentives to replace inefficient equipment. CARECO publishes newsletters on a periodic basis to keep our members informed of current events relating to energy costs and other items of interest. Additionally, CARECO will communicate to legislators on issues of primary importance to us, protecting our members who heat with home heating oil, and fair natural gas utility practices.
