A :: CARECO is a not-for-profit organization, we do not deliver oil or service heating equipment. We place our members with reputable local oil dealers in their area that provide the service.
Q :: Will the same oil dealer always service my home and make the deliveries ?
A :: Yes, the same oil company will provide service & delivery for each year of the contract.
Q :: What if I'm not happy with my oil dealer ?
A :: Careco will first try to rectify the situation with the oil dealer. If a suitable resolution cannot be reached, Careco will try to place you with another oil dealer in your area if one is available.
Q :: Does CARECO offer " cap " style pricing ?

Q :: Are Membership fees tax-deductible ?
A :: Membership fees are not tax-deductible.
Q :: My Natural gas heating bill seems very high. What can I do ?
A :: Send us the last three copies of your gas bills so we can review them. Please review the Utility Page for further details.
Q :: How do I know if my heating equipment is efficient ?
A :: Generally speaking, equipment manufactured prior to 1974 should be replaced. Energy efficiency was not a concern of equipment manufacturers prior to the energy crises of the 1970's.
Q :: Will higher efficiency equipment make my house feel colder ?
A :: No, the new equipment will produce the same amount of heat as the old equipment, and it will make heat faster. Also, less wasted heat will go up the chimney. The only difference is the money you will save, and the energy resources you will conserve.
Q :: Do I need to sign a contract with the oil dealer ?
A :: Yes, the contract is your guarantee that the oil will be supplied at the advertised price.
Q :: Why do I need to sign a TP-385 Tax form ?
A :: In New York State, residential use of heating oil is not taxed, other than applicable local sales tax. In order to have an exemption, we need the your tax form on file.
Q :: I live in New York City, why do I have to pay 4% sales tax on heating oil ?
A :: Despite budget surpluses, New York City still taxes its residents for heating oil , an essential product. The only way we can change this is to let our elected officials hear about this issue. You can fill out this web-form to voice your opinion, and CARECO will submit it to city officials.
Q :: Do I have to pay for the membership fee for 5 years ?
A :: Yes, the membership fees help fund CARECO's activities.
Q :: Does the service contract cover annual equipment tune-up ?
A :: Yes, the oil dealer will service the heating system annually, but tune-ups are done between April 15 and Sept 15. You can call the oil dealer to set an appointment during that time period.
Q :: My apartment building or commercial establishment is located in New York City. Who will inspect the boiler and file the inspection report for NYC Local Law 62/91 ?
A :: Please contact the oil dealer you have been assigned to arrange for the inspection. This is not covered under the service contract. If you do not file the report the City may assess a violation.
Q :: I'm a oil dealer, can I obtain work from CARECO's network ?
A :: Please contact our office to discuss our dealer program. Please be prepared to provide service territory, licenses and qualifications (Professional Licenses and certifications, NYS Tax & Finance license, Sales Tax ID, Consumers Affairs License for each county, insurance coverage, and references.
